Witnessing the divine confluence: Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

Journey with bharatpatelphotography to the heart of one of humanity's greatest spiritual congregations. Explore the breathtaking scale, vibrant rituals, and profound devotion captured at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.

A pilgrimage of epic proportions

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, held in Prayagraj from 13 January to 26 February, was an event unlike any other. It took place at the sacred Triveni Sangam, the mystical meeting point of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the fabled Saraswati. As a photographer, capturing this colossal gathering was an unparalleled opportunity to document faith, tradition, and human connection on an epic scale.

Washing away sins: the sacred dip

Millions of Hindu pilgrims, revered saints, and curious tourists converged to partake in the holy dip in the rivers. This ritual, believed to purify the soul and cleanse sins, formed the spiritual core of the Mela. Through my lens, I aimed to convey the deep devotion and serenity of these moments, inviting you to experience the grand occasion of the Mela yourself.

A rare celestial alignment: 660 million visits

The 2025 Mela, lasting 45 days, attracted an estimated over 660 million visits, solidifying its place as the largest religious gathering in human history. Occurring as part of a 12-year Kumbh Mela cycle, this particular celebration was deemed especially significant due to a rare celestial alignment, an event that occurs roughly every 144 years. My work at the Maha Kumbh Mela is a diverse collection of images that encapsulate the profound spirit and immense scale of this extraordinary event.
